Downing Street Transmission Main Replacement
All Niagara Region projects

About the Project

Niagara Region is replacing a 600mm diameter transmission main on Downing Street between Glenridge Avenue and south of Westchester in St. Catharines. The main, which was built in 1911, has reached the end of its useful service life and needs to be replaced.

The City of St. Catharines is undertaking work in this area and is coordinating with Niagara Region on this project.

Although this project isn't considered a road re-construction project due to the construction activity needed for the watermain and city works, it's expected that the existing asphalt roadway and curb will also be replaced as part of this project.

A new 375mm storm sewer will also be installed along Downing Street between the South Drive intersection and 62 Downing St.

Existing city sewers will be relined along Downing Street between Glenridge Avenue to south of Westchester.
