Decommissioning of Crescent Park Elevated Tank in Fort Erie

Project Description

Niagara Region is decommissioning and removing the Crescent Park elevated water storage tank located at 745 Crescent Rd. in the Town of Fort Erie. The structure was originally constructed in 1950 as part of the local water supply system.

In 2011, Niagara Region updated their Water and Wastewater Master Servicing Plan (MSP). The study recommended that the elevated tank be permanently decommissioned to address operational issues. The tank was taken out of service in June 2012, and the water distribution system, without the use of the elevated tank, has been functioning properly.

Project Status

Niagara Region has awarded the Decommissioning Contract to Ground Force Environmental Inc. The Contractor will commence demolition of the tank and associated buildings in July 2017, and demolition is expected to be completed by the end of August 2017.

Construction Activities

The work will include the cutting of the steel tank into sections and lowering them to the ground in a controlled manner, and removal of underground structures and appurtenances. Truck and equipment traffic can be expected on the site and surrounding roads during the construction period. Construction activities will be limited to daytime hours; noise and dust will be controlled as much as possible.

Note that any disturbance experienced during this time is temporary in nature and your cooperation and understanding is appreciated.
