Niagara Region, April 29, 2011 - Following yesterday's severe wind storm regular curb side garbage, recycling and yard waste collection resumed on Friday, April 29, 2011. Curb side collection did not take place in some areas of Niagara on Thursday and Friday due to the wind storm and fallen trees that prevented safe access for collection vehicles. Those residents that did not receive collection on Thursday will be allowed to place two bags or containers of garbage out for collection on their regular collection day on May 5.
Spring branch collection is also underway across the region for all single residential households and apartments with six units or less. The Region now provides four consecutive weeks of curb side branch collection in the spring and fall on residents' regular garbage/recycling collection days. Following yesterday's wind storm residents are reminded of the following requirements when setting out branches for collection:
Spring 2011 Branch Collection - Now underway
April 25 to May 20, on your regular garbage/recycling collection day
Due to the April 28 wind storm, branch volume is expected to be high. If your branch bundles are not collected on your regular collection day, please leave them at the curb and collection will take place over the following days. Residents are reminded that large branches and tree trunks are not collected at the curb. These items and yard waste can be dropped off at one of the Region's residential waste drop-off depots (Humberstone, Bridge Street and Niagara Road 12) or at the Walker Environmental Group Residential Drop-Off Depot in Thorold year round for free.
