Single family homes and multi-family properties with 6 units or less may use garbage tags for the collection of additional containers.

Sizes of Garbage Bag/Containers Allowed

A bag, garbage can or bundle cannot exceed:

  • Height: 91 cm (36")
  • Diameter: 61 cm (24") roundness
  • Weight: 22.7 kg (50 lbs) when full

Garbage bags placed within a container must not exceed the lip of the container.

All cans used for garbage should have handles on the outside of the container.

Unacceptable Containers

Metal and/or plastic barrels and drums, and cardboard boxes are not acceptable garbage containers.

Sealed cardboard boxes may be used to store broken glass or sharp objects for collection. Clearly write "broken glass" or "sharp object" on outside of box and call to book pick up at 905-227-7771 or toll free 1-855-227-7771.

Purchase Garbage Tags for Extra Bags

Garbage tags are available at stores located throughout Niagara region.

In order to have additional containers collected, a tag must be placed around the neck of the additional bag or on top of the materials placed in each additional container.

Do not place tags directly on garbage cans, place on top of the materials in the can.
