You're the Chef is a program designed to help youth ages 10 to 14 build the skills and confidence necessary to prepare healthy and tasty recipes emphasizing vegetables and fruit.
Along with recipe preparation, youth are taught basic kitchen safety, food safety and healthy eating principles over the course of three-to-six one hour sessions.
To participate, a volunteer must be recruited from the school community (parent, teacher, grandparent, etc.) to attend a three and a half hour training session in order to lead the sessions with the students.
To participate, a staff member or volunteer must attend a four and a half hour training session in order to be able to lead the sessions with the youth.
The cost of leader training is free, however, the cost of food and supplies are the responsibility of the school or agency.
First-time leaders must attend a training session held at the Niagara Region Public Health office in Thorold. Leader trainees will receive a manual with step-by-step instructions to run a successful program.
The next training session for agencies is Friday, June 22, 2012, 11 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
Register by Monday, June 11, 2012.
