No thanksNiagara Emergency Medical Services is in the business of promoting safety and the well being of citizens and visitors of the Niagara region. Preventing injuries and illnesses is a role that we take seriously.
We are pleased to participate in many events within the communities we serve. Programs such as Healthy Hearts, Racing Against Drugs and the Niagara Region Children's Safety Village are just a few of the events of which we are proud supporters.
Niagara Emergency Medical Services also participates in presentations at schools and in the community where paramedics educate about the services we provide, what to expect in an emergency situation and information on how to reduce potential injuries. Complete this form to Request a presentation.
For many years, Niagara Emergency Medical Services has been an active participant in the Racing Against Drugs Program, a community-based drug and alcohol awareness program. Paramedics give attendees an overview of an ambulance, about when you should call 911 and medical equipment used with alcohol and drug overdose.
The program is designed to promote a healthy, drug-free lifestyle, while using the high-profile and exciting sport of auto racing to capture the attention of young people.
The Niagara Region Children's Safety Village offers classes by Niagara EMS, Niagara Regional Police Service and local Fire Fighters. EMS classes teach children how to use 911, what to expect in an emergency situation and how to stay safe from Kindergarten to Grade Eight. Students also have the opportunity to play with interactive teaching tools that reinforce the safety messages.
Niagara EMS is proud to partner with Heart Niagara and over 180 elementary schools of Niagara to offer bystander CPR certification. This is an important skill that may help to save a life in the case of a heart attack.
In 2005, the Tim Teddy Bear Program was implemented through sponsorship provided exclusively by Tim Hortons. The goal of our Tim Teddy Bear program is to reduce the psychological impact of a traumatic situation immediately and long term by diverting the child's attention from the current reality.
During a traumatic event, paramedics will give a child in need of comfort a teddy bear, often reducing the stress of the trauma of the child, as the child then focused on the Tim Teddy.
