Reporting to the Director Transportation, the Associate Director, Transportation Engineering is responsible for the development and implementation of Transportation capital programs and the management of the Transportation Engineering Section.


  • Post-secondary degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent.


  • 10 years experience in transportation engineering and administration, including transportation and traffic related studies and procedures as well as road and building construction.
  • At least 5 years of this experience at the senior management level
  • Licensed as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng) with the Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO) preferred or certification with the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT) as a Certified Engineering Technologist (CET)


1. Provides leadership and direction in the development and implementation of Transportation capital programs for the Region of Niagara.

2. Develops, manages and administers annual and multi-year Capital and Operating budgets for the division, ensuring support of Council's objectives, financial transparency and accountability, budget adherence, identifying and explaining variances, and financial reporting is effectively managed in compliance with corporate financial policies.

3. Manages information prepared and disseminated to public/media/external stakeholders, identifying target audiences, ensuring accuracy and clarity of content and working with Corporate Communications to manage communication efforts.

4. Manages people resource planning for the division or operating unit, determining ideal organizational structures, identifying desirable role and skill mix requirements and ensuring ongoing work quality and deliverability of results.

Special Requirements

  • Must possess and maintain a valid and unrestricted specified Driver G license.
  • May be required to support emergency operations under the incident management structure, at the direction of the Emergency Operations Centre Director.
